Another Super Cub Day!

I got up at 6:30 this morning...really tough for me :)...And, I made it to the Duck Pond (See my favorite places to fly links on the right) by 7:03.

There was a slight breeze and in the mid 50's to low 60's F. I was in the last few minutes of my LIPO when my buddy David drove up. He brought his Blade 400 3D...which was pretty cool, I haven't seen one of them fly yet except for in videos online.

I have no pictures or video...but it was a fun hour.

I finally fly something this year

Saturday July 4th...me and a couple of my boys took the HobbyZone Super Cub to our local elementary school (see the "Elementary School Field 1" link in the right Nav area) and flew it with my Blade CP's LIPO...my standard battery for this plane now, gives it great kick.

I've had this Super Cub since September of 2007...almost two years now! I've busted props, broke the whole tail section off, burned out probably three receivers :) And...this has been the BEST plane ever so far. It's just pure fun.

Flight Log 09.13.08

Went flying this morning at the Duck Pond, see favorite places to fly in the right margin. This morning our church cub scouts came out for some buddy-boxing. My flying buddy Dave has the buddy-box setup with a DX6i and a JR transmitter and his Formosa top-wing trainer. The scouts flew well...at least the ones that were interested in flying, over the one's distracted by one of the kids PSP.

I can't believe that not one of brought a camera...but, it was a beautiful morning. I flew my Supercub for a good 10 minutes or so. I flew my red & yellow Chinese toy planes (The Red low-wing is totally outperforming the Yellow top-wing, I'm really enjoying every flight with it). I flew my Enticement. And, had fun flying my 2 channel toy heli from China (Click on the label "China" below to see more posts about the Chinese toys, and "Enticement" to read more about my Enticement etc.).

Flight Log 08.11.08

Flew the Super Cub this morning at the Duck Pond...Wow, how long has it been! Un-shockingly, the cub flew perfectly -- it's such a fun plane!!

I think my battery pack is starting to show its age...but, I still got a great flight out of the plane.

I completely prepared my LIPO batteries for the e-Flite Enticement, and also put the DX6i on the charger...then, I totally left the DX6i at home, so I had no controller to fly THE ENTICEMENT :(

Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

Flight Log 07.02.08

Flew the Super Cub at lunch today. I went out to the country side, hoping to do some aerial photography with my Cobra 5-n-1 camera...but, the battery is giving up the ghost :( and only records to brief bursts of a couple minutes or less on a full charge.

So, I didn't get any good footage. I either need to find a replacement Li-Ion battery for the camera or a way to supplement the power system externally...any ideas out there?

Here's where I flew...but got no video. See Google Maps

Flight Log 06.23.08

Flew the Super Cub during my lunch hour today. Just the right amount of breeze and sunshine to make for one awesome flight.

I walked over to the Field by work (See link in the right column) -- the walk conserves gas...and, I can use the exercise.

Go to JoeFlyer.com to read my review on this plane and\or buy one -- the Super Cub makes a great first plane. I've had mine for two years now and it's still fun to fly.

Flight Log 05.24.08

Flew this morning at the Duck Pond with my son and my flying bud Dave. Flew the Enticement and my Super Cub. Great morning for flying!

After my first flight with my standard Thunder Power batt. I tried out the FlightPower 1500mAh 7.4v 2s LIPO...It looked large on the plane, but it worked great! I flew it for a couple minutes...then it got too breezy. That's when I pulled out the Super Cub :) It really likes a good breeze.

After flying the Super Cub 10+ minutes I waited a little longer for the breeze to stop and then flew the Enticement for another 10 or so minutes using the FlightPower 1500mAh 7.4v 2s LIPO still...everything went great.

Foamies are a blast...and this Enticement is sweet for some really enjoyable sloooow maneuvers.

I'll post some video a little later

Flight Log 05.23.08

Flew the Enticement this morning. This makes flight number 2. I repaired the minor damage I did to it the other morning with a little CA and some spare foam. Everything worked great...next flight will need to have some video shot, so I can prove it's truly flying :)

I also flew the good'ol Super Cub. Had a very pleasant flight, as always, with it too.

All this went down at the duck pond area. There was a slight breeze, but not enough to move the windsock...and it was cool and overcast -- just a great morning!

Flight Log 05.19.08

Just came back from flying the Super Cub, at the Duck Pond. I met some friends of mine, who also have a SC, on a different channel, and we attempted flying together. The wind sock was pushing out to about 45 degrees, so there was a good breeze.

I told the kid who was going to send up his SC, "There's a good breeze. The plane can handle it fine, but you're going to have work the controls to keep it under control...you may not want to fly." But, his relative that drove him urged him on and he went for. After a few circles around the field something went terribly wrong and the next thing I knew his cub was nose diving into the cement pad, fairly close to where I was standing (and flying my plane). It then screamed in front of me and ran head on into the 3 foot cement barrier that encircles our flight pad. Well, there was some serious damage, that's for sure. It can definitely be repaired...with some glue, toothpicks and tape :) I donated a new motor that I had lying around...and he'll need a new prop shaft. It shouldn't be long till he flies again.

I also flew my little red low wing plane for 5+ minutes...it's still flying good !

Flight Log 05.06.08

Flew my Super Cub today -- Woo Hoo! It was real fun. Felt like forever since my last flight.

Flew at the field by my work. It was a great lunch hour -- sunny with a slight breeze and a very comfortable 55-60 degrees.

Flight Log 04.02.08

I flew my Super Cub this morning at the duck pond...on my way to work. The ducks and geese thought I was there to feed them, but when they saw the plane come out of my VW Bus...they knew they wanted no part in what I was about to do -- and so, they quacked at me and walked away.

I had a great flight, despite the disapproval of the local fowl. Brisk & Sunny...with little to no wind. The Cub has really proven itself as a long lasting and fun flier.

Flight Log 02.25.08

Flew the Super Cub at lunch today...at the field near work. It was a nice, brisk February day -- with a slight breeze.

I was able fly the Super Cub inverted for several seconds today -- that's good for my tired, old, and stock Cub!

Flight Log 02.11.08

YEAH! I got a chance to fly the Super Cub again...Seems like forever. I drove to the field by my work at lunch and had a great flight. There were a few geese in the field, but they didn't seem to mind.

I feel one with the Super Cub now -- I've been flying it for over a year and a half!

HobbyZone made this a great plane!!!

You should buy one

Flight Log 01.22.08

Wow, I flew the Super Cub again...seems like forever. It was cold, but sunny. And there was a possibility of strong wind gusts...but, I had to fly.

It was lunch time. And, a week or so back, my company had our whole division switch location from our leased building down the street to our own building -- don't ask. This means I'm no longer across the street from my work flying field -- see my favorite site in the right nav. So, I drove to the field.

I flew for several minutes; and got in several laps around the field and even a few loops and spins...then, BOOM, major wind gusts. The Super Cub was all over the place, but I kept it under control and plopped it down by the frozen puddles in the middle of the field -- whew! I must be understanding this flight thing...because similar gusts threw my SC into a tree last year :) Good thing then, that the Cub is so tough!

Been using the simulator alot during the holidays...

It has been pretty wet, windy, and cold...so, I haven't felt like braving the weather to fly. But, simulators are good for these days. I mostly use FMS -- that's what my laptop can handle and it's cheap, i.e. FREE :)

Here are several of my favorite aircraft I've been flying:

The HH-65A Dolphin USCG is a great looking and responsive scale heli.

The Colco Lynx-380XL is a very agile and fun 3D heli that should help keep your skills up during bad weather.

And, my HobbyZone Super Cub. This is basically a repaint of the "Super Cup" that comes with FMS...I just wanted a plane to practice with that looked like my favorite HobbyZOne plane, the Super Cub.
